Changes to NYS Licensing Law Eff. July 1, 2008
Change in Salesperson’s Licensing Application: Effective July 1, 2008, if you are interested in becoming a licensed sales agent, New York State has passed a law increasing the requirement from a 45 hour course to a 75 hour course. Click here to see changes to Paragraph 4 (d) of subdivision 1-A of section 441 of the real property law.
Change in Broker Licensing Application: Effective July 1, 2008, an individual wishing to obtain a broker’s license must do so within 8 years of obtaining their real estate salesperson’s license or the NYS Department of State can require them to repeat the initial 75 hour salesperson’s course. Click here for the complete details of the change to paragraph (c) of subdivision 1 of section 441 of the real property law.
Fair Housing Component to CE for Real Estate Licensees: Effective July 1, 2008, there will be an important change to the continuing education requirement for salespersons and brokers.
This new law mandates that any real estate licensee who is not grandfathered from education and renews their license on or after July 1, 2008 is required to have at least 3 hours of fair housing related instruction in the 22.5 hours of approved continuing education. This new requirement will ensure that REALTORS® are well prepared to meet the diverse housing needs of clients and customers. Click here for the full text of the bill.
