History of GENRIS
Members of the Greater Rochester Association of REALTORS®, Inc. (GRAR), are able to participate in the Genesee Region Real Estate Information Service, Inc. (GENRIS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of GRAR.
The information service, or MLS, disseminates information about homes to over 2,500 practitioners and 600 plus real estate firms that participate in the service. It is one of the largest of its kind in America and one of the most productive. REALTORS® can choose to participate in GENRIS and have access to the services, forms, information, Electronic Lock Boxes, Electronic Key Cards and most importantly the computerized listing information. These services are often critical to the sale of a property, or to finding a new home.
Although the majority of our 3,000 members are GENRIS participants, some are not. Those who do not participate, often deal in specialized areas of real estate other than residential, i.e. commercial real estate or property management.
Launched in 1995, GRAR’s public website, www.HomeSteadNet.com was the first to provide local listing information online to the public. HomeSteadNet® is widely used in the Greater Rochester/Finger Lakes region and contains the most complete local listing database.
In September 2003, GENRIS converted to a completely Internet-based MLS, called TEMPO™. Before the Association computerized the MLS in 1978, information on homes and properties that went on the market reached members and consumers in approximately ten days. Today that same information is available in less than one minute.
One great tool available through the TEMPO™ system is an auto-notification service. If you are looking to purchase a home, your REALTOR® can set up the auto-notification service to alert you by e-mail within 24 hours of any new property coming on the market that matches your criteria. This is a great way for buyers to learn about new listings and sellers to expose their properties to the market immediately.
