Make Your Home…In The City
John Antetomaso, REALTOR® President, GRAR March 22, 2008
The Greater Rochester Association of REALTORS® (GRAR) represents over 3,000 real estate professionals in the 12-county Genesee region. Despite the extensive coverage area, REALTORS® still consider the City of Rochester a centerpiece of the marketplace.
Some of the most beautiful and affordable housing stock in our area is located in the City of Rochester. City homes are filled with many unique characteristics and details such as hardwood floors, intricate wood moldings and leaded glass windows to name a few.
For the past sixteen years, GRAR has partnered with the City of Rochester to implement the “City Living Sundays” program, during which REALTORS® arrange open houses at a variety of homes for sale in the different areas of the city, for three weeks in early spring. The City of Rochester and community organizations will host a central site within the area as a reception location for participants. The host sites will be open from 12 noon – 4:00 p.m. A how-to-buy seminar will begin at 12:30 p.m. each Sunday, featuring a REALTOR®, lender and local attorney who will discuss their role in the home buying process. A City School District representative will also be present at the seminars to discuss Rochester’s public schools.
Are you currently looking for, or in the process of selling your home? Then you won’t want to miss this opportunity to view hundreds of homes available, or hold your house open for hundreds of buyers to view your property through the City Living Sundays program! The Southeast and Southwest area will kick off the event on Sunday, March 30 at Wilson Foundation Academy (formerly James Madison School of Excellence) located at 200 Genesee Street. The Northeast area will be on display on Sunday, April 6 at East High School located at 1801 East Main Street. The Northwest area will be featured on Sunday, April 13 at Aquinas High School located at 1127 Dewey Avenue. A “snow date” is scheduled for Sunday, April 20, if there is a cancellation due to weather.
At the reception site, members of the banking community will advise on the financial aspects of qualifying for a mortgage and owning a home. REALTORS® will have information on the featured homes being held open each week from 1 – 4 p.m. and instructions on how to find each one. Community groups will discuss the amenities of neighborhoods and be on-hand to answer questions about shopping, transportation and recreation.
The Landmark Society, another partner in the program, is offering guided bus tours of city neighborhoods in conjunction with City Living Sundays. The tour will highlight neighborhood amenities such as parks, historic buildings and prominent businesses plus local history and notable neighborhood events. Call (585) 546-7029 x10 or go to www.rochestercityliving.com for more information.
City Living Sundays is a great way to learn more about what the City has to offer while gaining useful knowledge and advice about the home buying process. It is also free publicity for city home sellers, as approximately one thousand people were in attendance last year. For additional program and schedule information, call (585) 428-CITY or visit www.citylivingsundays.com.
